What Fields Should a Premium Bordereaux Include?

A premium bordereaux should make the written business easy to identify, reconcile, and review. The exact template depends on the binder, carrier, broker, or market process, but most files need a consistent core.

Core identification fields

Include policy reference, certificate number or UMR where relevant, insured name, class of business, transaction type, and reporting period. These fields let operations teams match rows to the correct risk or policy.

Date fields

At minimum, include inception date, expiry date, and transaction date. For endorsements, cancellations, or adjustments, include enough date detail to show when the transaction took effect and when it was reported.

Financial fields

Include gross premium, net premium, commission or brokerage where relevant, taxes where applicable, and currency. Multi-country bordereaux should never rely on implied currency.

Territory and exposure fields

Country, state or province, and risk territory help with exposure, tax, and market reporting. If the risk is multi-territory, use clear allocation logic rather than free-text notes.
